London is about a 2 hours drive away from where I live. I usually catch a coach, which costs me £15 return – if I travelled by train it could end up costing me about £60 return if I’m lucky! For me this is not worth all that extra money.
God’s own junkyard is a junkyard of neon signs owned by Chris Bracey. For over 37 years Chris has created iconic signs and art pieces with a huge following in London and LA. The junkyard contains salvaged signs, vintage neon signs, old movie props, retro displays, fairground & circus lighting.
At the junkyard, there has been a Vogue shoot, a Punjabi music video shoot, a dynamo show and pieces commissioned for the likes of Johnny Depp in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Tom Cruise in Eyes Wide Shut and Jack Nicholson in Batman. Here neon never dies.
The junkyard is open on the weekends, Friday, 11am-9pm, Saturday, 11am-9pm and Sunday, 11am-6pm. To get to the Junkyard, you can catch the underground to Walthamstow Central station. There is also a cafe with some snacks and tea/coffee open all weekend.
